Why Use WGS84 ↔ MGI Map Converter?
🔄 Bidirectional conversion – Convert from WGS84 to MGI zones 5, 6 or 7, and vice versa.
🗺️ Interactive map preview – Instantly see your location on the map.
⚙️ Powered by proj4js – Ensures high accuracy using geodetic transformation parameters.
📱 Responsive design – Optimized for mobile and desktop users.
🧪 How it works
Enter your coordinates in either decimal degrees (WGS84) or meters (MGI zone). The converter will project the coordinates using Bessel 1841 ellipsoid and official transformation parameters (towgs84). The tool supports zone 5, zone 6, and zone 7, commonly used in Central and Southeast Europe.
What Are WGS84 and MGI?
- WGS84 (World Geodetic System 1984) is the global standard coordinate reference system used in GPS.
- MGI (Militar-Geographische Institut) is a historical coordinate system, still in use in some national cadastral systems in Europe.
The MGI system, especially with zones like Gauss-Krüger 6°, is often used in Austria, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and parts of Central Europe. Accurate conversion is essential in cadastral surveys, environmental studies, and infrastructure planning.
